We got the go ahead last night at 7:00PM, woke up at 2:00AM, and got a call cancelling the swim for today at 2:10. We had a little bit of wind yesterday, and it was suppose to die down overnight, but it didn't. It got stronger. So, it looks like we are in holding mode. It is a little disapointing, but last night and this morning I got to thinking about things I should have taken care of yesterday but didn't. Things like getting another memory card for my camera, and making sure the batteries are charged.
We went to Dover Castle, and ended staying longer than I expected. It was very interesting. Not only is it a medival castle, but there is also a network of tunnels under it that were used by the military during WWII. We spend about 5 hours there, probably too much for the day before a swim. It is probably good that we get a day to rest.

ReplyDelete(oops....)
ReplyDeleteHello,
Just wanted to pass on some words of encouragement. My wife (lennonhoo) posted a comment earlier about my channel relay. We also secured Reg + Ray Brickell (sp) as our pilots! We thought Reg was the spitting image of Robin Williams, but perhaps 10+ years has changed his figure. You are in good hands! Our crossing was successful in 10 hours, 21 minutes in 56-degree water with 5-8 foot swells. I think we ended up going on the third day in our window.
It sounds like y'all have done the necessary cold-water acclimatization. Your adrenaline will be pumping so hard it will feel balmy! We had no trouble with jellies, but did run into some seaweed. And bring dramamine or some ginger snaps or something for seasickness!
Best of luck,
J.S.
I am JoeDog's father. The Brickell's are the best. I would second Joseph's suggestion about the dramamine. Some of us had more aggravation from motion dizziness/nausea, on the boat, than the experience in the water.
ReplyDeleteI recall we had to wait 5 days past our original launch date, before Reg felt we should give it a try. Be patient and good luck!!!!!!!
